About Us

An all-volunteer team dedicated to finding lost and missing people in Champaign County, Illinois.

Who we are

The Champaign County Search and Rescue team was formed in 2012 under the auspices of the Champaign County Sheriff's Office and the Champaign County Emergency Management Agency (CCEMA). Our primary purpose is the search and rescue of lost or missing individuals.

Every member of our team is a volunteer. Searchers come from all walks of life and give their own time to train, prepare, and respond when someone in our community goes missing.

What we do

When a person is reported lost or missing, time and coverage matter. Our team supports the Sheriff's Office and CCEMA with organized ground search operations โ€” using trained searchers, sound search theory, and the Incident Command System to search efficiently and thoroughly.

Between call-outs, we train continuously to keep our skills sharp. Training topics include Lost Person Behavior, Search and Rescue Management, First Aid/CPR, land navigation, and more.

Where we fit. CCSAR operates under the authority of the Champaign County Sheriff's Office and CCEMA. When you represent the team, you represent both agencies and the community they serve.
